Numbers 19:14-17 King James Version (KJV)
14 This is the law, when a man dieth in a tent: all that come into the tent, and all that is in the tent, shall be unclean seven days.
15 And every open vessel, which hath no covering bound upon it, is unclean.
16 And whosoever toucheth one that is slain with a sword in the open fields, or a dead body, or a bone of a man, or a grave, shall be unclean seven days.
17 And for an unclean person they shall take of the ashes of the burnt heifer of purification for sin, and running water shall be put thereto in a vessel:
Numbers 19:14-17 New King James Version (NKJV)
14 ‘This is the law when a man dies in a tent: All who come into the tent and all who are in the tent shall be unclean seven days; 15 and every open vessel, which has no cover fastened on it, is unclean.16 Whoever in the open field touches one who is slain by a sword or who has died, or a bone of a man, or a grave, shall be unclean seven days.
17 ‘And for an unclean person they shall take some of the ashes of the heifer burnt for purification from sin, and running water shall be put on them in a vessel.

14 Death was unclean this most likely was because death was the result of sin, so it is coming in contact with the results of sin, there is also diseases that can come from contact with a dead body which they would have been isolated to prevent spreading these diseases.
15 Mold can grow inside open vessels especially when there is something left in it. Mold can be fatal and God was aware of this, this law was to keep them safe, He is a loving Father and wants to keep them safe.
16 Again contact with a dead body, most diseases start to have symptoms quick even if they are fatal if nothing happened to them in seven days then them having contact with the dead did no harm to them and there was nothing then to spread.
17 Theses ashes were used for the purpose of becoming clean but this would require someone going to get it for them making them unclean as well. Jesus had to take our uncleanness on the cross for us to be clean from sin.
