Acts 10:14-16 King James Version (KJV)

14 But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.
15 And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.
16 This was done thrice: and the vessel was received up again into heaven.

Acts 10:14-16 New King James Version (NKJV)

14 But Peter said, “Not so, Lord! For I have never eaten anything common or unclean.”
15 And a voice spoke to him again the second time, “What God has cleansed you must not call common.” 16 This was done three times. And the object was taken up into heaven again.

These are my thoughts, please share yours.

14 Peter being Jewish kept a Jewish diet, this meant many things but at this point in time it meant even though he was ministering to the Gentiles, he didn’t eat because their food wasn’t clean, he may have been at the point where he was starving himself while serving God.

15 This states that God doesn’t make anything unclean. This means that sin is what makes unclean, this doesn’t mean anything should be offered up as sacrifice because Jesus was the best sacrifice that could be given; this meant that Peter could eat so that he could further serve. We don’t have to live by Jewish diet but it is wise to watch what we eat.

16 Three times is to make it clear to him and let him know it was ok, the Jewish dietary laws were done away with because it was more important being spiritually clean than to be physically clean.
