In this discussion we will study the Beatitudes that Jesus gave to us. Each one has a certain meaning and can bring us to a better understanding about the Kingdom of God. Let's break each one down as we continue our study.

"Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are they who mourn,
for they shall be comforted.

Blessed are the meek,
for they shall inherit the earth.

Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they shall be satisfied.

Blessed are the merciful,
for they shall obtain mercy.

Blessed are the pure of heart,
for they shall see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they shall be called children of God.

Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."

Gospel of St. Matthew 5:3-10

If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed, aware of how impossible it is for you to do what God asks, you’ve been in touch with what it means to be “poor in spirit.” You've been asked by Christ to become a partner in his kingdom. That partnership can and will change us and hopefully through that we can change the world. We aren't so full of pride and personal independence that we realize we can change. It's too bad some just won't get that message.

If those who are poor in spirit will have the kingdom of heaven, this must mean that God will strenghten their spirit.
