Ezra 3:8-10King James Version (KJV)
8 Now in the second year of their coming unto the house of God at Jerusalem, in the second month, began Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and the remnant of their brethren the priests and the Levites, and all they that were come out of the captivity unto Jerusalem; and appointed the Levites, from twenty years old and upward, to set forward the work of the house of the LORD.
9 Then stood Jeshua with his sons and his brethren, Kadmiel and his sons, the sons of Judah, together, to set forward the workmen in the house of God: the sons of Henadad, with their sons and their brethren the Levites.
10 And when the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the LORD, they set the priests in their apparel with trumpets, and the Levites the sons of Asaph with cymbals, to praise the LORD, after the ordinance of David king of Israel.
Ezra 3:8-10New King James Version (NKJV)
Restoration of the Temple Begins
8 Now in the second month of the second year of their coming to the house of God at Jerusalem, Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and the rest of their brethren the priests and the Levites, and all those who had come out of the captivity to Jerusalem, began work and appointed the Levites from twenty years old and above to oversee the work of the house of the LORD. 9 Then Jeshua with his sons and brothers, Kadmiel with his sons, and the sons of Judah, arose as one to oversee those working on the house of God: the sons of Henadad with their sons and their brethren the Levites.
10 When the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the LORD, the priests stood in their apparel with trumpets, and the Levites, the sons of Asaph, with cymbals, to praise the LORD, according to the ordinance of David king of Israel.

8 They have been back in Jerusalem for 14 months now., the Levities were the ones to build the temple because they were called by God to work in the temple, sometimes to that God calls are chosen by man to their exact purpose for serving such as a preacher is called to preach but the people often choose him to allow him to do the work God has called him to do. Everybody had a place to help get the temple done, while only the Levities were the ones to build the temple there would have had to be people to go get the supplies for building that way they could remain at the temple ground building the temple. God wants people to grow up before He will put certain tasks on them, this does not mean God could not have used the younger Levites or use kids today but means age often times means a growth.
9 Judah represented the kings of Judah this shows that instead of them trying to rebuild their throne they were focused on giving God His temple. This shows that the focus of the people went back to God which was not where their focus was when they went into exile.
10 The foundation of the temple was laid the foundation is important because if it is weak the whole temple would fall, our foundation is to be in Christ our Lord and Savior, any other foundation will bring us crashing down. We are to give the Lord praise, nothing praises the Lord more than our obedience.
