Acts 8:20-23 King James Version (KJV)
20 But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.
21 Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God.
22 Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee.
23 For I perceive that thou art in the gall of bitterness, and in the bond of iniquity.
Acts 8:20-23 New King James Version (NKJV)
20 But Peter said to him, “Your money perish with you, because you thought that the gift of God could be purchased with money! 21 You have neither part nor portion in this matter, for your heart is not right in the sight of God.22 Repent therefore of this your wickedness, and pray God if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you. 23 For I see that you are poisoned by bitterness and bound by iniquity.”

20 Nothing we can do can buy or earn the Holy Spirit it is a free gift to us it was paid by God’s own Son Jesus. Many have the idea that they can earn salvation truth is the devil wants people to believe that because that idea sends them and their so calls work to the lake of fire it is only by Christ that we are saved and thru our faith in Him we are given the Holy Spirit.
21 He did not want to come to God out of faith because he saw a greater power and wanted that power rather then submit to God’s power he just wanted to gain the power of God. Motives in our heart matter very much to God.
22 If his heart became right then he could have the Holy Spirit as well as everyone can but this comes thru faith of making Jesus Lord of our life, he wanted the power without Jesus being Lord today many want to go to heaven but without living a life for Him.
23 We can not hide our true motives from God sometimes we may not even fully know our motives but He does. For others to find out our heart scares us but Jesus knowing our heart should bring us to repentance.
